Mikko Ikäheimo

NEW! Mikko Ikäheimo's CD with music of Federico Moreno Torroba was released in September. CD includes a recently published concerto for two guitars and orchestra Tres Nocturnos and suite for solo guitar Castillos de España.

Finnish guitarist Mikko Ikäheimo (born 1972) studied guitar at the Sibelius Academy as a student of Jukka Savijoki and Timo Korhonen and at the Basel Music Academy in Switzerland with Oscar Ghiglia, graduating from both schools with the highest honours. While in Switzerland he also studied the performance practices of older music and period instruments at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. In 2003 he was awarded first prize at the international guitar competition in Stafford, United Kingdom.

Ikäheimo’s career is notable for its variety. He has given première performances of much new music, including everything from solo works to concertos, while regularly performing on period instruments in performances of older music. Formed in 2001, the Helsinki Guitar Duo’s CD Everything But the City has received enthusiastic reviews from Italy to Japan. Mikko´s solo CD (2009) features music of Spanish Federico Moreno Torroba, including a recently published concerto for two guitars and orchestra, Tres Nocturnos and solo suite Castillos de España.
